Have you got the Green Padlock?

When you’re browsing the web you may have noticed the green padlock appearing in your browser’s address bar. This shows that the connection between your computer and the website is secure, any information you enter on the website will be encrypted on its journey. The padlock is created by installing an SSL certificate on your website.

Why is it important?

As well as the essential work of keeping your customers information secure, in 2017 Google made two critical changes which make having an SSL essential:

  • Prioritising SSL secured websites over non-secure websites in Google search results.
  • Highlighting websites ‘Not Secure’ in Chrome if they don’t have an SSL certificate.

So not having an SSL certificate could reduce the number of customers finding your website and increase the chance of them leaving as soon as they arrive as they would lack trust in your site.

What should I do?
